Welcome, Witches

Your Friend in Witchcraft is an epistolary game for two players. As you play and exchange letters, you’ll tell a story about how witches learn, how leaders grow, and how people change.

Print copies of this game are available at Indie Press Revolution!

Build Memorable Characters

One player will portray THE NOVICE. You are new to witching, and there is no one nearby who can mentor you. The other player will portray THE EXPERTYou’re an old hand at witching, and you have so much knowledge to pass on.

You'll work together to establish the tone and setting of your game. Then, you'll each choose an Archetype to base your character on, and answer some questions about their personality, home, and community.

Write Magical Letters

Gameplay happens asynchronously—you’ll take turns writing letters, rather than sitting down to write at the same time—and is designed to cover at least four letters from each player.

When you write a letter, you can draw on a few sources of inspiration:

  • STORY MOMENTS: wider narrative beats for the Novice and the Expert
  • EVERYDAY PROMPTS: questions to help you portray moments in your everyday life, prompted by drawing Minor and Major Arcana cards
  • ARCANE ACTS: information to help you with the details of acts of magic, inspired by drawing Major Arcana cards

Quick Stats

Hey just want to confirm that this also gets me the physical copy. I see in the info it says physical game, but everything else indicates a downloadable pdf. Im happy to have rhe digital copy also, but really want the physical copy. My local store ran out.

Hey, thanks for checking! This does not get you a physical copy, only a digital one ("physical game" on itch basically means "not a video game"). I'm hoping to get a new batch of print copies to Indie Press Revolution soon!

Thanks!

Hello! I recently bought 2 hard copies of this game from my local game store (1 for me + 1 gifted to a friend) and wanted to know if it would be possible to get a PDF copy as well. Thank you for your consideration & I hope you have a lovely day!

Yes!! Check the credits page at the back of the book for the secret link to the PDF, or email me at kaymarlowallen@gmail.com to get it!

Perfect! Thank you so much. :)

Really excited to add this game to my growing collection of Tarot driven ttrpgs.   Even made a little video:

This is so lovely, Clementia! Thank you so much for sharing ♡

The link to your Kickstarter on this page is broken!

Oops, thanks so much for pointing that out!

WOW this game!!! it's a gorgeous piece, with just enough structure to allow intriguing and impactful narratives to take root and grow. it's full of character and reflection on the nature of magic and the people who practice it. i can't recommend it enough!

Deftly woven art.

It takes a delicate hand to create an epistolary game with an overarching plot structure, and that's doubly true when you concoct as many pathways as Kay has in Your Friend in Witchcraft. With three (different!) playbooks for each player to choose from, Kay has created an asymmetric game that gives all characters opportunities to be interesting, vulnerable, and fallible.

I can heartily recommend Your Friend in Witchcraft to anyone who likes quiet connections, emotionally intelligent stories, and a little bit of magic.
