A Playable Species

Sources disagree on who originally planted the patch of tubers and taproots in the primal mud of the Feydark. Some say it was an apprentice sorcerer hoping to impress her teacher by cultivating the notoriously unpredictable sludge; others claim it was a purple dragon trying to grow magical items from ordinary vegetables treated with magical fertilizer. In any case, that first gardener was likely surprised when their vegetables grew larger and larger, their roots separating into legs that carried them out of the earth and into the world.

Overview

This is a supplemental document that will help you create a rootling character: a large, sentient being grown from a magical veggie seed. Inspired by the Radish Spirit and carrots that look like they have legs, rootlings are a unique addition to any adventuring party.

If you've created a rootling character, I would absolutely love to hear about them! Please feel free to leave a comment, or email me at kaymarlowallen@gmail.com.

Sidebar Image Descriptions

More D&D

If you'd like more of my flavor of D&D, I've created a free character background and another playable species! Play an adventurer coming out of retirement for one more epic journey, or a funky four-armed femme fey.
